Stephen Woicik started the Question How did you fund the start of your business? in the Discussion CEO – Chief Executive Officer 1 year, 3 months ago
Starting a business takes capital. Doesn’t matter if it $10 or $10,000 the money is needed. How did you fund starting your business? Was it self funded? Venture capital? Small business loan?

Stephen Woicik started the topic What Was The First Position You Hired? in the forum Human Resources 1 year, 9 months ago
The first time your business goes from just you to having an employee is a big step. It doubles the size of your business. It doubles the amount of paperwork you have to do (going from 0 to 1 employee is a lot harder than going from 1 to 2). It also puts a lot of trust in that person. What position did this first employee fill?
Was it someone to…[Read more]

Somehow I've never heard of that one before. I'll add The Richest Man in Babylon to my reading list.

If you could recommend one book to other business owners, what would it be? Why?
One of my favorite things to ask over business owners is what books they're reading and what books helped them with their business.
What we read greatly effects our opinions and actions. A powerful book at the right time will change the way you run your business.…[Read more]

Stephen Woicik started the topic What are some common accounting terms that business owners should know? in the forum CFO – Chief Financial Officer 2 years ago
If you are starting or already running your business you may not be an account or finance expert. But as the owner of the business you are expected/required to have a basic knowledge of this very important part of your company. Even if you outsource your accounting to a third party, you need to be able to understand and make decisions based on the…[Read more]

Stephen Woicik started the topic Are You A Google Company? Apple? Microsoft? in the forum CTO – Chief Technology Officer 2 years, 4 months ago
It used to be common practice (and still is in many cases) to be all in on one company for running your business. You're a Microsoft company, or a Google company, or an Apple company, or whatever else you'd like. You pick one software platform to build your company off of for convenience and to make sure everything works together. I see this a lot…[Read more]

Stephen Woicik started the topic Starting Paid Advertisement in the forum CMO – Chief Marketing Officer 3 years, 6 months ago
For the past 8 years my company, Rivik Media, has always gained new clients through word of mouth and referral marketer. There would be occasional clients that found us through a search engine, but 99% were from referrals from other clients.
This has always kept us busy, so I never gave much thought to having paid advertisement. I now want to…[Read more]

Thank you for the insight. It's interesting seeing these issues from another point of view. I look at Uber from a technology standpoint and they are really disrupting the industry. That disruption is coming at a cost though.

This forum topic has been moved from CFO to Announcements & Feedback.
The spelling error has been correct in the CFO forum description.
Before publicly launching there will be discussions already started in each of the forum topics. This will ensure that the “Oh bother!” notice will not be anywhere on the site. As people are being invited to…[Read more]

swoicik started the topic Best WordPress Guide for Beginners in the forum CTO – Chief Technology Officer 3 years, 7 months ago
I wanted to share one of my favorite resources for learning how to use WordPress, Easy WP Guide. It's a free resource that is kind of the unofficial user manual for WordPress.
I know a lot of my clients and other business owners use WordPress to power their websites. The first time you use it, it can be a bit overwhelming. Because of how…[Read more]

Since starting my company, I have taken on charitable programs. Either pro bono work for a non-profit, or donating directly to local groups in the community.
How does your company handle charity work? Do you have any creative ways to interact with the community?
If your business has a national or global customer base, how do you handle…[Read more]
